among two other campaigns, the br(it) girl herself has snagged the covetable position of mbmj girl. she'll be photographed by juergen teller, dolled up in his mix&match aesthetic, and plastered inside the pages of teenvogue for his ss09 ads.
i'm excited.

we can never get enough alexa, it seems.
she's so darn enviable, and maybe that's the reason for her status. often we envy those we idolize, and understandably so. her extensive wardrobe, perfectly inked cat eyes, pinball method of dating rocker boys ... anyone not up for that lifestyle ?

at first skim, i didn't like this shoot. i found it a bit too pervy, a bit too terry richardson (in a bad way), and a bit too raunchy.

at first sight, i hadn't liked lara stone. her wispy and almost transparent eyebrows irked me, and i wasn't crazy about her gap teeth.

well, scrap what they say about first impressions, because as it turns out, i came to adore this shoot.
lara's commanding features contrast perfectly with the young boy aura that randy exudes, and the overt sexual gestures that i would generally abhor somehow seem to enhance the carefree and sexually charged air of the shoot. her perpetually mussed hair and varsity sweats are so teenage, while his second skin tees and glossy bowlcut are quintessential seventies child. the combination simply works, and what is created is pure perfection garnered by raw talent and genius.
some things are indeed worth a second chance.

lily donaldson ? my favourite model ? no, it can't be !
she's mainstream, flaxen-locked, with eyes like the carribean seas...
but last night's epiphany made me look at this from another perspective:
perhaps i've been treating her like doc marten boots.
let me explain.
when doc martens first appeared on the fashion scene, i relished their androgynous and commanding air, but i never really imagined them on my little feet.
they continued rearing their leather heads in all of their punk glory for quite some time, and only now, when it seems as though the hype has died down to a slow buzz, do i find myself lusting for them.
maybe my newfound love for lily is due to the lack of limelight shining down on her golden peachy skin, letting me view her in a shade that doesn't take away from her exquisite beauty.
or, on the other side of the looking glass, i might have always been secretly and profoundly enraptured by her, and only now is this admiration surfacing.

or, you know, maybe i just desperately want to be her ?

lily and raquel obviously rock it, but it's in their blood. for the mere mortal, try falke tights, chunky knits, the omnipresent motorcycle jacket & a pop of colour such as fuchsia louboutins.

all that's missing are some fire escapes to climb up for the best view of the best city.

when a girl has a name like imogen, one can't help but take notice. throw a gorgeous face and lithe limbs into the mix, then you've got a recipe for an unforgettable model.
imogen morris-clarke is 5'10 with diminutive features and saucer-size blue eyes, and she's popping up all over the nyfw ss09 runways. rodarte & giles deacon anyone ? this is only her first season, but i'd bet good money that this londoner will be hanging around for quite a while.

a pretty boy is like a melody.

pretty pretty everywhere.

as spectators wait expectantly for the steady flow of lanky models to come cascading through the mouth of the runway, all eyes are on the woman's core. her core is where the designer's work is on exhibition - flowing gowns, structured silhouettes, brights or black - and therefore the highlight of the show itself.

however, it is very likely that the eye wanders towards the woman's face, where her expression, her delicate features and, most importantly, her makeup are all on display. it is for that reason that makeup artists go the whole nine yards, season after season, year after year, to create unique looks which fit the description of the woman wearing the clothes, the woman with all eyes on her.

this season, many of said women wore crimson lips, an illuminated visage or heavily-kohled peepers. above, a quick resumé of my favourites, from proenza's delicate take on simple glamour to phillip lim's sultry palette.
it comes as no surprise that this season, like all the rest, was a hit in the books of beauty afficianadoes everywhere.

i lovelovelove the lookbook for play by c. ronson on urbanoutfitters.com. personally, i think it's the perfect blend of advertising & beautifying, like an editorial that really sells the goods. more than that, the model's hair is my newfound destiny - i really want that shade !
