empty beds and bad behaviour

it's all fine & dandy that mister mark the cobrasnake gets to travel the globe even in the dead of winter, letting him seek out places like hawaii and new zealand for week-long getaways. but there is only so much a homebound canadian chick can take !! all of these perfectly tanned beauties, with their sleek blonde locks and supersuperbig shades shielding their faces from vicious uv rays are making me sick with jealousy.
i just wish i were perma-bronzed and blonde.

in other news, someone buy me this pronto.
chloe + missbehave = pure gold.
well, anything + missbehave is terrific, so one can only imagine this to be mindblowing.

i feel too close to be losing touch

i love this editorial.
does anyone know which magazine it was featured in ?
[courtesy of tfs]

32 days until chrimmy, i think. 32 days until the warm flames from the fireplace pour heat out into the living room, tree and stockings and ornaments and all. 32 days soft '60s christmas tunes float through the musky ginger-scented air, as bright smiles paint themselves onto the faces of the young and the old. 32 days until big bows and bigger boxes all tucked neatly under the tree.

the ombre plaid coat from urban outfitters has been on my mind non-stop lately. i'm not usually one to fall for plaid outerwear (or any pattern, to begin with, especially houndstooth or tweed) but this coat looks so cosy and canadian that i can't help but long for it. its shape is the deciding factor: i mean, how can you not appreciate such a well-constructed drop-waist and the perfect length of sleeves ? the only issue would be its warmth, but aided by simple layers, i could wear it all through the winter, no doubt. the price tag is really good too (approximately $100), and so the piece has found a spot on my christmas wishlist as of late.

alongside which are the samsung slyde cellie in pink; the american apparel raglan in dark violet or triblend black, and a subscription to marie claire magazine. i've already enumerated the (many) novels i'm lusting after. and, not pictured, is the frederik fekkai celebration of style (a set of coiff products, such as an anti-frizz creme, a staightening balm and a finishing creme, all in miniature formats) as well as gift certificates (hello joefreshstyle, starbucks, shopper's drug mart, american apparel, aritzia or chapters) and an eyelash curler.

i know for a fact that i'm terribly greedy. to think, some people cannot even permit themselves to give gifts during the holiday season, and i'm here with an arm's length list of sufficiently pricey items that are far from necessities. i'm not expecting the half of these things, i just like dreaming up infinite wishlists (as we all do, right ?). as a matter of fact, if i had to pick just three things to ask for this christmas, it would be lots of snow, holiday cheer and the good health of the loved ones who celebrate the season with me.

happy holidays !

if you give it a minute it's wrong

this is what i decided to throw on upon arriving home today. forgive me for blurry pictures and an awfully messy room (the first is my camera's fault ... the second, well, i have no excuse). the dress is from h&m (isn't that purpleredpink floral pattern a dead giveaway ?) and the tights are very thick and very reliable. i thought it was a suitable outfit for drinking cranberry tea (mmm) from a cup with my baby picture on it ! apparently i had the cutest little sailor-style onesie ever.

oh & have you ever heard of a little canadian magazine called naked eye ? i hadn't, until a few days ago, though i really should have. upon revising previous issues, i saw that they had mentioned the lovely lykke li before indie-sensation-hungry fashionistas could sink their teeth into her magical talent. i also saw that they went to the lengths of featuring ben & jerry's latest ice cream flavour, artfully titled bohemian raspberry (a queen reference, no less) for the sake of giving readers what they want ... and god knows they all want frozen treats. there's a little something for everybody: the kooks (yay) and finger eleven (gag).
i'm at a time right now where i have decisions riding me like there's no tomorrow, choices to be made about my future and so on. and while i questioned my real-life desire to write and create for a living, i had somewhat lost hope in the possibility of success in a community where it's exponentially hard to make your mark.
however, naked eye (fortunately) proved me wrong. it is, hands down, one of the most terrifically written and visually pleasing magazines i have ever read. take that, nylon ! it's not that i expect naked eye to join the ranks of paris vogue or dazed & confused as the iconic magazine of our time, but it's got a lot of the other 'pop-culture-meets-fashion-meets-hipster-meets-raaaaaad' magazines beat. again, nylon included. i'm telling you, you don't need cory & peaches to harbour a hit ... all you need are some witty writers and passion. period.

check out the five issues for yourself here.
they're gold.

lara stone & the late randy johnston

at first skim, i didn't like this shoot. i found it a bit too pervy, a bit too terry richardson (in a bad way), and a bit too raunchy.

at first sight, i hadn't liked lara stone. her wispy and almost transparent eyebrows irked me, and i wasn't crazy about her gap teeth.

well, scrap what they say about first impressions, because as it turns out, i came to adore this shoot.
lara's commanding features contrast perfectly with the young boy aura that randy exudes, and the overt sexual gestures that i would generally abhor somehow seem to enhance the carefree and sexually charged air of the shoot. her perpetually mussed hair and varsity sweats are so teenage, while his second skin tees and glossy bowlcut are quintessential seventies child. the combination simply works, and what is created is pure perfection garnered by raw talent and genius.
some things are indeed worth a second chance.

all your food is frozen and needs to be defrosted

i was flipping through an old jalouse issue, from june of this year, and i came upon a brief interview with it girl alice dellal. and i thought it was cute, so i decided to post its' translated version here.

a town ? london.
a pub ? camden.
a book ? the wind in the willows by kenneth grahame.
a restaurant ? any lebanese cuisine.
a movie ? top secret by the zucker brothers.
a band ? the rum shebeen or eraserheads.
a brand ? charlotte olympia (her sister's shoes) or house of holland.
your style ? nineties.
a vacation spot ? rio da janeiro.
a boutique ? ebay.
a dream ? being a ballet dancer or a tattoo artist.
your projects ? working on my photography & learning to drive.
where do you see yourself in five years ? behind the wheel !
jalouse is one of the few magazines i feel privileged to read. maybe it's the fact that it's european and hence a bit more hard to come by here in north america, or maybe it's the smart material that is offered to me in the variety of articles it publishes. either way, i savour every last drop of jalouse, with no exceptions.
yes, it's rare i actually purchase it. it's like six bucks and i'm a cheap-ass ! but i scavenge for it amidst tigerbeat & martha stewart weddings in the (not-so) vast array of magazines offered at my local grocers, pharmacies and corner stores.
it's the least i can do for the magazine that makes me think.

ps -i thought of answering the questions that were asked to alice, but then decided against it, instead opting to ask you guys to do so ! i am really interested in finding out what your favourite, hum, everythings are !

apples and pears.

i was so happy to see nylon october in my mailbox today.
better yet, i was so happy to see zooey deschanel on the cover of nylon magazine.
not only because she is without a doubt one of my favourite actresses (alongside natalie portman and sandra oh), but also because she is the begining (or the return) of something good for nylon. they've been going in circles for a while now, with cory, the 90210 girls, leighton meester - i respect all of them, but the constant overexposure of what most call it-girls was getting old - and zooey seems to be the perfect girl to break the trend.
she's been around for quite some time now (remember her in almost famous ?) and with a slew of upcoming roles in movie such as 500 days of summer & yes man, she's sure to be back on the radar of many in no time.

and not surprisingly, she was terrific in weeds.
i really do love that show.
