Standing on the edge of safe.

As Zoë has mentioned in the last post, now is the time to show flagrant disregard for overly bright hues. Eschew them and embrace the new muted palette. If you're wondering how, I suggest replacing your fluorescent shades with more subdued ones: Canary with mustard, emerald with forest, magenta with plum, and electric blue with pale lake blue; and mix them in with your dark pieces. This is where Emilio De La Morena comes in. His collection is awe-inducing, making my jaw drop at every piece. His clever use of light and dark convince me that he definitely hails from supernal realms. See for yourself...

Great thanks to Kingdom Of Style for the pictures.

One more time.

It's funny how much one can change their mind in a matter of months. Back in the faraway land of Spring, I wistfully gawked at vibrant hues that seemed to be sprouting everywhere, predicting that they'd still be on my radar by the time Fall came around. But, it seems I've convinced myself otherwise, instead leaning towards simple whites, blacks &, the omnipresent greys. It's not that I'm moody, although such a colour palette would suggest so. I just feel that those colours are more chic & pulled together than electric blue & dashing magenta. Maybe that's just me.
Which is why this season, I absolutely adore Daryl K, for their simple, easy basics & brilliant layering. Plus they have this kind of futuristic approach on everyday classics, that makes you want to slap on a pair of 3D goggles & moonboots. Except no. Because moonboots always remind me of Mariah Carey, and that would just suck all the joy out of my new James Bond attire, now wouldn't it?

, , & .

In other news, I am in love with these MJ flats. They are so simply ballerina-esque & beautiful, and they kind of ressemble slippers, so they would practically go with everything. But then there's like the rugged aspect of them, whatwith the naughtly studs & all. They're perfect.

vegas on acid, seeing through these st-laurent glasses.

If I had the privilege to get a back to school outfit, I'm pretty convinced as to what I would purchase. You see, attending a private school & all, the most unique attire we can show off at the beginning of the school year is a vibrant tee layered under our usual white blouse or our preppy forest green polo. And even so, often times the colour clashes so much that we're warned that further use of said layering could result in, eek, detention. Sure, I'm still a high school kid, but I know all-too-well what all this uniform business is going to cause us in the long run. By the time we're out of school, we'll have no idea if we should match colours or contrast them. We won't know if a pleated skirt is still appropriate or if battered leather shoes are allowed. Which is why I can proudly exclaim, thank god for fashion blogs! Anyways, back to my premiere choice for frolicking the halls;
Nice, simple Cheap Monday denim.

Creative Recreation Cesario Hi [are the shoes every student should own.]

A previously mentioned Nicole Farhi cardigan [i think i'm in love.]

And a plain heathered v-neck [don't mind the model.]

Accessories should include any one of the sick summer shades you've purchased in the past two months, and any oversized bag [no TNA allowed].

PS: Who here votes that Jackson Pollis is trying too hard to look like a geek when really there's a stud hidden beneath those thick black rimmed glasses? I do, I do!

We hate your hate.

I love pictures of people who are amazingly dressed. It makes me wish I wasn't so lethargic and unoriginal about my personal style. I mean, I know what I like, I'm just unable to put pen to paper, for lack of better terminology. Anyway, I'll leave you with these well-dressed women, while I contemplate buying an entriely new wardrobe.

I think I'm a bit too obsessed with Ashley and Mary-Kate.

Jessica.

PS: I apologize for not having la crème de la crème photos of these marvelous ladies, but believe it or not, they're quite hard to come by! Anyway, I can attest to their personal style being absolutely gorgeous, so trust me when I praise them. Unless you totally hate their styles, that's a different story.

We have two hundred couches where you can sleep tight.

The Olsen twins are everything & more. Just when you think their simple layers and ski-high heels can't get any better, they throw you a curveball in the form of mocassin boots or numerous bangles. Their tendency to not only predict but also portray trends almost too well, I must say, is outstanding.

Which is, I suppose, why I love this picture so much. Sure, a basic paparazzi shot, another one of those invasions of privacy that we the public admire most. But in all these said 'invasions of privacy', we have the opportunity of seeing Mary Kate and Ashley in their prime. Their street style is to die for, I mean, they always look so carefree yet fashionable, straying from the Californian designer-chic look and instead leaning towards the struggling-trust-fund-baby-artist ensembles. They look better in oversized shades than Richie & Lohan combined. They can make a plain white tee look like it's worth hundreds [which, coincidently, is the price of the tees in their new line, The Row]. When they traded haicolours, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Because that's what they're all about, surprising the people that take the time to watch what's up & what's down on the Olsen fashion radar.

Another thing I feel I have to mention, is my complete adoration for MuchMusic VJ Devon Soltendieck. He wears clothes, he doesn't decorate himself in them.Plus I'm wild about his short blonde hipster hair.

This, my friends, is a gallimaufry.

'This, my friends, is a gallimaufry' PT 1.
I CANNOT SPEND MONEY. Ask anyone I know, and they'll tell you that I have a serious shopping issue. It's not that nothing I find pleases me. No, nothing like that at all. It's more that I incessantly debate about the item, wondering whether or not I'll wear it, or if the price is too steep, or if I really like it. But then I always return to my dull wardrobe the next day, regretting my decision to not spend the cash. And of course, while I was at American Apparel today, my unfortunate condition acted up again.
See this simple closet staple?:

Basic and amazing, right? That's not what I was thinking. Step inside my disturbed brain: "Well, yes it's gorgeous and I've been craving it's softness and ultimate coolness, but how often will I wear it? Will it be relegated to the back of my dresser? Or worse yet, shoved in bottom of my locker, sentenced to be used solely as a backup gym shirt? And maybe it's too expensive..." I need someone to smack me sometimes (That's usually where Zoë comes in, but she wasn't with me at the time), I should have bought that shirt. In a slightly big size, paired with a tight skirt that's just short enough. Or with tight black pants and some skyhigh heels.
Back to my horrible disease.
So then I spotted these:

And they're just what I've been wanting. They're thigh-high, but that's okay because I could just scrunch them the tiniest bit and they would be somewhat Prada-like. But no, I figured I could just wait until I go to H&M and then I'll get some there.
Finally, I went to Aldo Accessories and found a three pack of black and silver rings. Exactly what I was looking for. But for fifteen dollars, there was no way I would be buying them. So I turned to leave the store empty-handed when there it was, glowing down on me with it's aura of beauty. A crocodile stamped black leather bag. Perfect. Perfect. So in a fit of lust, I grabbed the bag, forgot about all my quandaries and threw my debit card at the cashier, and I bought the stunning bag without a moment's hesitation. Okay, I lied. I didn't buy it, but did you honestly think this would have a happy ending? Sorry if you did, but sue Disney, not me.

From the first moment I saw the Daisy by Marc Jacobs bottle, I fell hard. It was as if it embodied youth, levity, and a free spirit sort of attitude. I'm not usually this deep about perfume, but this one makes me so happy. Everything about it. The ads are good too, but how could they not be with Irina Kulikova and Juergen Teller working together? (I had originally typed 'Irina Kulikova and Juergen Teller in cahoots', but then I remembered that a)i'm not forty, and b)they aren't scheming behind marc's back. that would be hilarious though.)

I have become obsessed (and rightfully so) with Chanel footwear. From their knee-high gladiator sandals, to their cap-toed boots, I have never seen them gone awry.
The captoe may not be loved by all, but I believe it adds a certain magic and it would not be the same lusted-after shoe sans contrasting captoe.

Loafers burnt red like toasters.

I've fallen into a bit of a rut. All I ever wear are my denim cutoffs [which I bought at Wetseal, not at UO, but cutoffs are cutoffs, in my opinion.] paired with the rest of my boring crap that constitutes my wardrobe. The only thing that jazzes my outfit up is my black sequined purse that falls around my waist & sometimes glisten when the sun hits it at the right spot. Aside from that, it's tees & Havaianas for me, thanks. Which is really quite unfortunate. And which is also why I must find a bunch of things that can be worn no any day of the week, for any occasion, as basics that stand out more than they blend in.

This fake ostrich YSL bag is quite glamorous, yet it's black & it's simple & it would fit pretty much anything. It's the kind of carryall I could envision myself wearing on the streets, with jeans & a tee, aswell as at a restaurant or out shopping. Quite the quintessential fashion purchase, no?

Flashy & cute & very girly, these shoes are made for walkin'.

A thick stretch fabric heandband will keep bad hair days away, plus with my thick bangs they're an easy substitute for the 'bobby-pin-bonanza-to-keep-your-bangs-up' look. Definite keeper.

Okay, sticking a bra in the list of things to wear to stand out may be a tad confusing, but it's because I really do need a bra, and when you're wearing a comfy bra that goes with everything, the options are endless with what top can be paired, or dress, or blouse, or neckerchief worn as a shirt, whatever.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
A buckle belt with an edgy buckle. I have a red one with a gold rose as the buckle, and it looks nicer than it sounds. They're quite practical because you can wear them to keep your pants up or to squeeze in your waist. Either way, it revamps a basic outfit.

And if all else fails, I can just become Charlotte Casiraghi. She never blends in, now does she?

Zoë

mixed emotion, fixed devotion.

We've got ourselves in quite the predicament. While wide-leg jeans are totally 'in' right now, skinny jeans have yet to lose their appeal, and so a teeny tiny fashion dillema ensues - which are better? I'm not convinced that wide-leg trouser jeans are appropriate for everyone, I mean, they're a trend like any other but would they really work for some sixteen year old perusing sale racks at her local thrift store with a choppy haircut & a penchant for house music? I think not. Instead, that's where the skinnies come in, to save us all from looking like a cross between a seventies hippie & Mischa Barton. Which are pretty much the equivalent, but still. What I'm getting at, is although either style doesn't work on everybody, is there one that's just a tad more appropriate for life itself? Because sometimes we all feel like wearing shoes à la Dita von Teese & red lipstick, although our sourpuss neighbour may not approve of taking out the trash in such a daring outfit.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The fact that well, everybody has noticed how overrated skinny jeans are by now, also brings up a slight problem - what will the hipsters start wearing? Because we all know that they're sooo innovative & eclectic, what with their HOH tees & bleached shags. I must admit, I can't really see them grooving along to any of LA's DJs in wide, dark wash trousers & a Libertine blouse... Unless said club was hijacked by Rachel Zoe in a sick attempt to regain her role as fashion's, err, 'queen'. That being said, they'd probably start wearing fluorescent tracksuits or show up butt naked before transitioning to more of a chic look.

My opinion? Leave the wide legged jeans to people who can really pull them off, more specifically for the right occasion. Sipping lattes & wandering your local park, that's when the more mature look is appropriate - not at a Kanye concert.
